Teach an old keyboard new tricks [VIDEO]

I love my keyboard.  It has perfect feel and very high quality sounds.  But being made in the late 90’s, it wasn’t built with modern software technology in mind.

No worries – I can still get all the functionality I need without spending thousands of dollars on a new keyboard.  In my latest video, I demonstrate how to investigate which controls on your current keyboard can communicate with software like Apple’s Mainstage.

You’ll need a MIDI connection (I use an M-Audio Midisport 2×2) and MIDI monitoring software.  For Mac OS, use MIDI Monitor.  Then, you can see what “languages” your keyboard’s knobs and sliders are speaking.

In the video, I’ll show you how to set up your available controllers to work exclusively with your software, as well as what to do if you end up needing more controls than your keyboard has.
